- I am not comfortable having my picture taken and and don't know how to pose. Can you help me?
-
At Short Street Photographers, each and every person who Joan photographs is guided every step of the way. She is an expert at posing, composition and finding the most flattering angles for face and figure. She will demonstrate how to stand, where to put your hands, and help with every little nuance to make sure you love how you look!
- Everyone looks so nice in your photos. How do they know what to wear?
-
No need to worry. The wardrobe and planning consultation is so important. Joan will talk to you about your personal style and the vibe you want to portray. She explains what clothing and colors will work for the backgrounds you select and will show you real samples. She will also send you home with access to our proprietary color and style guide.
- Do you guarantee your work? I’ve had photos done with another photographer and didn't like them.
-
Absolutely, we guarantee our work, but over the years, we have had over 4,500 customers who have loved their portraits. We are obsessed with making you happy and knowing you will LOVE your portraits. The secret sauce is in our process of getting to know you and your needs before you ever step in front of the camera. The time invested in the beginning ensures that we have your best interests (and angles!) in mind, which turns our clients into raving fans. You’ll also get to see a few sneak peeks along the way to show you that you’re rocking your session!
- Will you retouch my images? Certain things make me anxious about the way I look.
-
First of all, Joan understands the nuances of lighting someone who is 20 years old, someone who is 80 years old, and everyone in between. Using exquisite lighting and guiding you with posing, she is able to flatter your face and figure and create images you are proud of. Of course, retouching is available. In saying that, we believe in responsible editing. Unfortunately, we have all seen photos that have been heavily filtered and overly photoshopped. People want to see the real you in your portraits and look at them and say, "Wow," for all the right reasons. During your ordering appointment, we discuss in detail retouching options (from blemishes to wrinkles to slimming) to make sure you feel confident and look like the best version of yourself on your best day!
- It's kind of exciting! When will I see my images and how long does everything take?
-
Yes, it is exciting! After your session, your Reveal & Ordering appointment will take place within 2–5 business days. All decision-makers should be at this appointment, as your order will be placed that day. One ordering appointment is included with your session. Additional appointments incur a $250 fee. For Express Sessions, we sometimes schedule same-day Reveal & Ordering Appointments.
Your order, including wall art, albums, prints, and image files, normally takes 3-5 weeks, but business and professional orders can be rushed and ready in a couple days. If you need something sooner, we will do our best to accommodate you.
- How will I know what to order?
-
When you are in for your consultation, you will see an array of beautiful, luxe portrait options. Many of our clients are here because they want a lasting legacy, told through their portraits, that was created just for them. Fine art wall canvasses, custom albums, image boxes, etc. help to beautifully preserve the memories captured during your time with us. During your consultation, we discuss your portrait wishes and create a plan as to how to best satisfy them with the portrait products we offer.
For our professional clients, chances are you need images for more than just one application (i.e., LinkedIn, your website, Facebook, Instagram, email signature, speaking engagement bio, just to name a few!). An image that works well for LinkedIn may not be as scroll-stopping for social media (and vice versa). A strong collection of branded images will tell your business’s story. And they will help you stay in front of your target audience. Which, after all, is the main goal of stellar headshots!
- How do I know what session is best for me?
-
Don't worry, if you are still unsure after looking at the website and talking to Joan on the phone, you can go ahead and schedule your in-person Wardrobe and Planning consultation. At that appointment, in addition to discussing how to best prepare for your session, clothing and background ideas, etc., we will talk in depth about your vision, and Joan will help you decide what session is the right fit. Please note that a non-refundable retainer of $190 is due to secure your in-person consultation time with Joan.
- If I have to reschedule or cancel my session, what happens?
-
To provide exceptional service to all our clients, we keep a close eye on our schedule. If you need to reschedule due to illness or emergency, we completely understand. Because we exclusively reserve your date, staff, and possibly professional hair and makeup artistry, your session fee is non-refundable but will carry over to your rescheduled session. There is a rescheduling fee of $250. If your session is outdoors and weather prevents the session, we reschedule your session and transfer your session fee to that date. If you wish to cancel and not reschedule, or if you are a no-show, your or session fee is forfeited.
- Will this be expensive?
-
Great question. It is important to know we have something for everyone's budget; there is never any pressure, and of course, you only purchase what you love. During your in-person consultation, we will listen to what your wishes are and show you some portrait options to consider. You will leave with our complete product catalog, and not until you see your amazing images at your ordering appointment do you have to make a decision. Although the range of investment varies, depending on the session, it is common for clients to spend $1,800 to $7,000 or more.
- When do I pay? Do you have payment plans?
-
For sessions, when you call, there are two options. If you choose a session and are ready to secure your three appointments, the session fee is due. If you are unsure what session is best for you and want to decide during your in-person consultation, a non-refundable retainer of $190 is due. The retainer is then applied to the session you choose, and your appointments are scheduled.
For portrait, wall art, album, image file orders, etc., payment for the entire order is due at your ordering appointment. If you would like to take advantage of our no-interest payment plan, 50% down and up to six months to pay are available. Because we immediately start the retouching, design, and prep of your order while you are making payments, your order will be ready in just 1-2 weeks after the final payment is received.
